APEC economies have diverse national and sectoral laws governing consumer privacy which provide strong protections for consumers around the region.

APEC has worked to raise standards for privacy and data protection around the region, notably through work on the APEC Privacy Framework and the implementation of the APEC Cross-Border Privacy Rules (CBPR) System and the Privacy Recognition for Processors (PRP) System. By agreeing to a regional privacy framework which aligns with the OECD Guidelines and European privacy regulations, and accounts for unique regional concerns in the Asia-Pacific, APEC has worked to establish high-level standards across all member economies.
